| Background Info: |
Citizens of the ROC enjoy religious freedom and can worship any legal faith. In Taiwan Buddhism is deeply entrenched in the common people's culture and every day life. With this in mind, Taiwan Post is issuing a set of four stamps featuring the buildings of Dharma Drum Mountain, the Chung Tai Chan Monastery, the Fo Guang Shan Monastery and the Tzu Chi Foundation. The stamps will be released on May 24, 2007. The stamps, which have white backgrounds to symbolize the pristine purity of the Buddhist world, feature the most representative buildings of Dharma Drum Mountain, the Chung Tai Chan Monastery, the Fo Guang Shan Monastery and the Tzu Chi Foundation.
The designs of the stamps follow: The Dharma Drum Mountain International Buddhist Educational Complex: Master Sheng Yen built this complex with funds from a wide variety of donors. It integrates education, Buddhist practice and culture. In response to rapid social change in modern society, Dharma Drum Mountain actively promotes the protection of our spiritual, living, social and natural environments. The Chung Tai Chan Monastery: Founded by Master Wei Chueh, this magnificent building mixes Chinese and Western styles, combining religion, culture, academics and art. The Fo Guang Shan Monastery: the main function of this monastery is to spread Buddhism and provide all people with spiritual relief. The beautiful building is in the classical palace style. It is a great monastery that integrates education, Buddhist missionary work, charity, pilgrimages, tourism and Buddhist culture. Xboth past and present, in Taiwan and abroad. In creating a piece of "pure land on earth," it bears witness to the ideals and spirit of its founder Master Hsing Yun. The Tzu Chi Foundation: Founded by Master Cheng Yen, the foundation engages in charity work that follows both the Buddha's teaching of "Great compassion to strangers and great mercy for all" and Master Yin Shun's instruction to "be constantly committed to Buddhism and to all living beings." |
