Former ROC President Yen Chia-kan, better known as C.K. Yen, was born on the 25th day of the ninth lunar month, 1905. He dedicated his whole life to his country and was well respected by all. He died on December 24, 1993 at the age of 90. In coordination with events to mark the 100th Birthday of Former President Yen Chia-kan on November 7, 2004, Chunghwa Post is issuing a stamp in memory of this admirable political figure. Yen came from Wu County, Kiangsu Province. Among the important posts he held were head of the Department of Finance of the Taiwan Provincial Government, minister of economic affairs, minister of finance, governor of Taiwan Provincial Government, premier and vice president. In 1975, he became the president of the ROC. Yen was a man of principles. He was selfless, modest, cautious, open-minded, and indifferent to worldly fame and wealth.
