The election of the eleventh president and vice president of the Republic of China was held on March 20, 2004. On March 26, 2004, the Central Election Commission announced that Mr. Chen Shui-bian and Ms. Hsiu-lien Annette Lu had been re-elected and will be sworn into office on May 20, 2004. As is customary, to honor and celebrate this occasion, Chunghwa Post is issuing a set of four stamps and a miniature sheet entitled “The Inauguration of the Eleventh President and Vice President Commemorative Issue.” The designs of the stamps follow: (1) The four stamps are printed in a horizontal se-tenant strip and feature portraits of President Chen Shui-bian and Vice-president Hsiu-lien Annette Lu and the appeals for “Solidarity in Taiwan,” “Stabilization across the Taiwan Strait,” “Stability of the Society” and “Economic Prosperity” that President Chen made in his acceptance speech on March 20 or formulated during the first term of his presidency.
(2) Miniature sheet features portraits of President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Hsiu-lien Annette Lu. For a background, it employs the beautiful “sea of clouds” at sunrise on Alishan Mountain and the magnificent Taipei 101 Building (the world’s highest), which symbolize a beautiful new Taiwan under the leadership of President Chen.
