This set of stamps features four modern landmarks in Hong Kong.
THE HONG KONG STADIUM ($1.30)
The Hong Kong Stadium was completed in March 1994. It is a multipurpose venue which has been designed and equipped to host a wide variety of sporting, entertainment, cultural, religious and local events. The stadium can accommodate a maximum of 46,000 spectators. It is built on the site of the original 18,000 seat stadium, which was completed in 1952.
THE PEAK TOWER ($2.50)
The Peak Tower was completed in November 1996. It has a distinctive outline resembling a Chinese bowl. It is a multi – purpose, seven – level development with some 120,000 square feet of floor space including various entertainment attractions, restaurants and viewing terraces. The mix of shops in the complex provides a wide range of products for overseas tourists and local people. The tower is built on the site of the original Peak Tower, which was completed in 1972.
THE HONG KONG CONVENTION AND EXHIBITION CENTRE ($3.10)
The Extension of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre were completed in June 1997. Built on reclaimed land, diretly in front of the existing Centre, the Extension projects into the harbour marking the Centre one of the most spectacular exhibition and convention facilities in the world. In addition to the state – of – the –art exhibition and meeting facilities, the complex offers banking facilities, on – site car parking, shops and office space. Since the Centre’s opening in 1988, it has hostd over 12,000 events, including major trade exhibitions, gala dinners, film festivals, international stamp exhibition and international conferences.
THE LANTAU BRIDGE($5)
The Lantau Bridge was officially opened in May 1997. It consists of the Tsing Ma Bridge, the world’s longest suspension bridge carrying both road and rail traffic, the shorter Kap Shui Mun Bridge, and a viaduct to connect the two bridges. It links the islands of Tsing Yi, Na Wan and Lantau, and spants two shipping channels. Throughout its 3.5 kilometres, the Link carries a dual three – lane expressway on the upper deck and a twin – track railway on the lower deck. In addition, two single lane sheltered carriageways on the lower deck allow traffic to use the Link during emergencies and inclement weather.
