This set of special stamps depicts four species of migratory birds which come annually to Hong Kong.
They are:
YELLOW – BREASTED BUNTING Emberiza aureola ($1.30)
The male Yellow – breasted Bunting has a black face, yellow underparts with a chestnut breastband and chestnut upperparts with a white shoulder patch. The full black face and chestnut breastband are absent in the female.
GREAT KNOT Calidris tenuirostis ($2.50)
The Great Knot is a shorebird typically found on mudflats. All its plumages have a noticeably dark breastband. It is predominantly a passage migrant in April/May, although a few birds winter in Hong Kong.
FALCATED TEAL Anas falcata ($3.1)
The Falcated Teal is a distinctive duck with a large glossy dark head and long drooping feathers over its back. It is an elegant bird with fine scaly markings on the breast. It breeds in north – est Asia.
BLACK – FACED SPOONBILL Platalea minor ($5)
The Black – faced Spoonbill is a large wading bird with a spoon – shaped bill. It ha extensive black facial skin and a short shaggy crest. It is a winter visitor with occasional summer visits.
