The stamps for airmails are knownas air mail stamps. These stamps commonly use plane,bird and aero symbol such as pegasus, flywheel and arrow as the central design. The denominations of air mail stamps usually are high, so they can be used in the other mails. Not all the stamps with plane as their design are air mail stamps, the air mail stamps commonly have the characters "航空邮票" (air mail stamp)and " 航空邮政"(air mail).
To satisfy the demand of air mail post service, People's Post of PRC issued the first set of five air mail stamps on May 1,1951. The stamps uesd the Heaven Temple and plane as the design, marking it is a set of air mail stamps.
